Check out how cannabis's 2 main energetic compounds, THC and CBD, affect your brain as well as body, and what risk variables to look out for.
—
In 1970, cannabis was identified as a timetable 1 medicine in the United States: the strictest classification feasible, suggesting it was completely unlawful and had actually no acknowledged clinical uses. Today, marijuana's therapeutic advantages are extensively recognized, however a growing acknowledgment for its medical worth doesn't answer the question: is recreational cannabis use poor for your brain? Anees Bahji investigates.

The real question is: “Is brain bad for your marijuana?”
yeah noone thinking about marijuana’s health man
Hits blunt
i’m high and ive been laughing at this for so long
@yazlin actually we get it completely
Lol
Golden rule: too much of anything can be bad for you
@SubjectChroma 7% increase in oxygen increase in the atmosphere would lead to a slow painful death since our bodies aren’t properly acclimated.
@blue donkey u tell me..
@Haseda – what if other’s give you too much love
haha no
Too much of money??
When I first started smoking weed, I told myself I would only smoke on special days, little did I know that every day is a special day..?✌️
??????
Yessirr
big facts
You smoke weed or vape weed ??
lul
Scientists: Alcohol is actually more detrimental to health than weed.
Government: I’m gonna pretend I didn’t hear that.
@Damon TragicVille I’ll give you the fact that it’s harmful to developing brains. But otherwise no. Around 30% of marijuana users surveyed have some sort of use disorder regarding weed. The problem is you can have weed dependency without addiction. It’s only addiction when it interferes in your life causing problems and you still can’t stop. A lot of these studies use dependency as proxy for addiction which inflates the numbers. Dependency can result from anything from medical use (which every funded medical study acknowledges to the point that the vast majority of states have legalized for medical uses. at least CBD). To just really liking to smoke. Now the most important thing to weed addictions is how early people start. The earlier you start, the more likely you are to develop a dependency and also it’s likely to depress you. Weed is a lot more common in youth so naturally most people are going to start earlier, which IS a problem. However it’s clear you don’t actually know what you’re talking about other than Reagan era propaganda talking points. So have a good day
@Isaac You have a nice day as well., bye
@Isaac Are you saying its not that harmful?
@kev jackson Weed is worse than meth
@kev jackson Alcohol is natural
I’ve been reading some studies on the matter and found some very interesting bits of information.
The CBD as instance have a broad range of positive effects while THC does not. The CBD is steadily declining and THC keeps increasing.
THC has the positive effect of getting you high as a kite 😉
I for one believe that MANY of the therapeutic effects of cannabis come directly from the THC high, but as with all drugs, dosage is key. Many or most people do too much. I use sativas only, which contain more THC and less CBD than indicas, and I smoke just one small hit at a time… I therefore remain alert and competent, which is how I like it!
After 55 years of use (and a BS and an MS in biological sciences), I believe that MUCH of the therapeutic effects of Cannabis are directly attributable to THC, and likely a host of cannabinoids that modify its effect. In other words, for many conditions, including insomnia, lack of appetite and pain, it is the buzz itself which is therapeutic. Efforts to separate the 2 (THC from the medicinal effects) are prohibitionist propaganda.
@ordinary name Meth is better for our body
@yankee2 yankee Meth is better
Uhhhh who else became paranoid when he talked about memory/learning damage from usage under age 25…
@Qt Tux yo, i was thinking the same at your age but i promise its not worth it. there will be plenty of weed to smoke after you turn 25, trust
@YSLYRIC I know there is but there’s plenty of weed to smoke now
@edbn24 that’s a relief. I’m under the age of 25 and I’ve done it but I don’t do it every day. Maybe once a week. I don’t every have the urge to do it. Only if I’m with my friends I will. It’s enjoyable but not something I’d choose to do on the daily. Alone
@Angelic TroubleMaker congratulations, not smoking weed cleary makes you successful.
21 now and been smoking alooot of weed whole 2021 until now. I don’t really i have any effects from this ‘’drug abuse’’.
As someone with ptsd, I have serious issues with getting to sleep. One puff on a pen and it’s like someone letting the air out of a balloon.
I can relax and my mind stops racing. I can feel my body physically unclench itself and I get the best sleep ever. The next day I am way better and it’s less likely I’ll suffer an anxiety attack.
You don’t dream cause it messes up your rem sleep.
Total opposite for me , weed makes me feel low , fuk that sht,
I’m with you, and it – along with psychedelics – gave me my life back ?
I relate to this very strongly. Very fitting anecdote
THIS.
Every smell and taste is intense and hearing is actually so damn perfect and every word is easy to understand plus no f worries u just living in the moment thats my experience ❤️❤️❤️
@Depth Shade you feel every bit of sound and lyrics are so clear
Damn you are right about that when you smoke weed your sense will increase to the extent if you managed to do so
Sometimes it’s like that. Some days it’s the complete opposite. Sometimes when I’m high I can’t think of a word I’m trying to use, or I am using it correctly but think I’m not. I tend to overthink when I’m not stoned, but sometimes I still do while high. I think the strain matters and content amount in the flower. You never get the same high from different strains but regardless of how many different kinds you try, if you smoke every day, your brain still gets used to marijuana and needs more to get higher over time. Non-smoking days are good for you too and never hurts to put some on the path.
Wait until you get to the being able to breeze through a 9-5 work week driving boats every day of said week Point of riding the High Waves ? ✌️??✝️???
I can see in 4K when I’m high cause my vision blurry asf but when I smoke I can see so much detail lol
The person who drew this cartoons truly understands the color of our eyes when we are stoned
Definitely a stoner too
LoL …
It always helped me to self reflect and to think of things more clearly and from a more positive perspective. I’ve not used THC in over a decade and I’ve found myself caught up in the world just going through the motions, not feeling like I’ve really been living or experiencing life. I had a small dose of THC a month ago and since then I’ve been more calm, patient, and I looked back ten years or so on how differently I could have lived my life and realized I need to do things much differently. I believe it’s all in how you use it, like anything.
Yes!! Me too!
Exactly, I feel like I can think more clearly and it helps reflect in a more positive perspective
If you can share some wisdom, with that hindsight what would you have done differently?
@0x Spend time with your loved ones, get your money up (nothing good comes out of being broke) and keep a good hiegene. Oh and also do not prioritize weed. If you have stuff to do, make sure you complete whatever you’re supposed to before chilling and smoking
I smoked a lot of weed in college. About 2 to three joints with the bois. I started doing worse in school, didn’t care. Didn’t get a good internship , didn’t care. Didn’t get a good job but at this point I had quit smoking since I had graduated. All of sudden after a few months I started caring again the anxiety of doing something with my life came back. Weed relaxes you and makes you forget about your worries. This is good once in a while. But the way I was doing it was toxic and I never want to go back to that again. Still love weed tho. Would recommend.
@Vincent Tolman I’ll try that but it’s hard not to smoke a whole week.
@yankee2 yankee I knew a lot of people like this. Thats very good. I’m happy that you were able to accomplish this. But not everyone is like you. I never said that I tested stoned or even studied stoned. My grades suffered because I never went to class because I found getting stoned and playing fifa more interesting than going to class. I had b+ in most of my classes and in all of those classes there was a 10 percent participation requirement which I obviously didn’t get. So I had a 3.2 instead of a 3.7 if I had went to class. I was fine with mediocrity and I yes I do attribute that to my smoking, it had that effect on me personally because without smoking as I am now I am extremely ambitious. Just my thoughts. By the way I was majoring in computer science and economics. Didn’t have time to pad my gpa like most of my ir major friends did lol.
@yankee2 yankee god job brodie
@Hova good on u bro I make 6 figs working as a software engineer for a Fintech.LOL. I had a 3.2 in college lol
I recommend methamphetamine and opium
I ended up in a mental institution after daily marijuana use in over 5 years from 18 to 23. Had a psychosis and went crazy. Not smoked in over 12 years now and living a good normal life.
@Agl Z I agree with that, but even as dedicated a toker as I am and have always been (55 years), I will admit, or I should say agree to the possibility that Cannabis may possibly precipitate or exacerbate psychosis in people who actually have an underlying psychosis… But I, and I say WE have no evidence or proof that Cannabis CAUSES psychosis in anyone who was not teetering on the brink anyway…
Most psychotic experiences occur or emerge between the ages of 15-25. It is entirely possible that your coincident cannabis use and psychosis was just that, a coincidence.
@yankee2 yankee well this whole ordeal lastet around 3 months. And marijuana was the catalyst every time i slipped back into psychosis. I even smoked it years later and became extremely paranoid that evening. This is the last time i have touched it.
@Agl Z Meth doesn’t make us psychotic and doesn’t create mental illness
@yankee2 yankee We also have no evidence that meth causes psychosis
thank you for discussing the psychosis triggers & side effects of marijuana. i would have never realized schizophrenia was a part of my genetics if not for my intoxication and hallucinations (three years ago) meanwhile i thought i was going batshit crazy cause most of my friends can smoke and be fine. marijuana isn’t for everyone and we should normalize mental health before anything else ???
Thank you for this! i figured out i had bpd, anxiety when i smoke didn’t know this just thought i was crazy
People “hallucinate” on weed all the time and they say it’s normal. But for me, I see nothing real. No fun shapes. No moving world. Literally looks and feels like I’m in virtual reality 360°. Never smoking again.
All the weed you guys don’t want to smoke, you can pass it my way, I’ll do the right thing, I’ll take this burden off your hands. Let me smoke it for you. Let me support you in this way. ?
FACT: the first dopamine release of the day will tell the brain to keep doing whatever generated it. Therefore smoking in the morning can increase your risk of addiction.
Hmm… that makes sense when thinking about how easy it is to form a habit/addiction to checking mobile/apps in the morning.
I’m probably already addicted to weed, but I was about to start smoking in the morning ?
Strange. I’m always paranoid, and I use to smoke weed. I loved it, but eventually it became terrible. I started to think people were whispering about me and talking bad about me, and I would just be freaking out the whole time. Now I can’t smoke weed at all and think maybe I might have liked schizophrenia or something
I started smoking at 16 and was able to keep up and smoke with everyone. By 19, I started getting paranoid and getting panic attacks. It would come and go and I was stubborn so I kept smoking until I was 23 or so. I had a massive panic attack and called it quits. I haven’t smoke in 6 years but still am struggling with anxiety. I never really had any before I started smoking. It’s crazy how it can still have lSting effects.
Yesterday I had my first bad trip or marijuana induced psychosis and it was the most frightening moment of my life, I even asked my mom for help lmao. But Overall it was a good experience, felt like my soul went past my body limits, It was my first intense experience so I was a bit scarred and things took the wrong way…
I love how this wasn’t biased but just factual
I think one concept to take into consideration is, since studies on the brain are still very much in the process of improving/understanding how it functions and responds, it can be truly hard to say whether or not something would have a bad effect on it, and if so, how much and how long it would last. Concussions are invisible abrasions to any scans, yet they cause headaches, nausea, vomiting, difficulty learning/memorizing, etc.
When I smoked, it didn’t have a huge effect on my ability to function, but I did notice some smaller symptoms growing over time—such as speed of memory, my natural scatterbrained-ness being more than usual, and less comfortable sleep. It definitely varies person to person, but since we don’t know it’s good to take notes on how it physically affects you and not ignore them just because others don’t have the same symptoms to the same strain.
I used to have a pretty sharp memory, and I noticed after I went to college and smoked quite a bit of weed, all of a sudden I started forgetting things super easy. I’m not saying I’m for or against it, it’s just personally something I chose not to use anyone because I didn’t want to damage my brain any more
The memory loss isn’t brain damage, your brain just has a hard time forming memories under the influence but if you’re not smoking it’s not changing your brains memory patterns. Lots of research and studies have been done on this.
@Scott Garou what I meant was that my overall memory has gotten way worse since smoking weed than it was prior. I actually had a pothead friend who I always laughed at because they could never remember memories and I’d have to tell them and remind them. And then they’d be like “Oh yeah! I remember that now.” And now I’m like that too
